Our speaker this month is Kathy Wilson, director of Granger House in Marion, Iowa. The title of her presentation is "Shared Roots, Tangled Vines, & Broken Branches." If you think tracing one or two family trees is difficult, imagine a project involving hundreds! In 2004, historian Kathy Wilson began a project to do just that, and not just American families, either, but those living in the United Kingdom and more than 20 different counties around the world. Using examples from her dissertation project, Kathy will discuss the types of resources available to individuals tracing lines in England, Scotland, and Ireland, and the challenges of conducting remote-access research. She will also highlight some of the problems she encountered during her research and will provide helpful hints for breaking through those frustrating "brick walls" she encountered along the way.
Refreshments will be served after the meeting. We hope you can join us!
