The monthly meeting of the Genealogical Society of Linn County will take place Saturday, April 23rd. Our business meeting begins at 12:45 with social time at 1:00, followed by the program at 1:30.
Elaine Mercado, with the Jackson County Historical Museum, will speak about orphan trains and the plight of a quarter-million orphans relocated from New York to the Midwest and other parts of the United States. Mercado said the orphan train program was really the first foster care program. The majority of these kids were not adopted but were foster children. She will also speak about the book she has written Iowa's Orphan Train Riders, published by Jackson Co. History Museum
